Diabetes is a form of insulin deficiency.
Two major varieties of it, known as type-I and type-II, need to be
separated.
Type-I diabetes is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s own immune
system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Insulin is a
vital hormone needed in all cells in the human body.
Type-II diabetes involves a combination of the pancreas not producing
enough insulin and reduced sensitivity to insulin in the body’s cells
(which means the cells have a higher insulin demand than normal).
Heritability in type-II diabetes is significant, but obesity, unhealthy
food and too little physical activity are decisive factors in its
development.
